Prayers for Stephanie

Please keep my friend Stephanie in your thoughts and prayers. We were good friends in high school, and I have been able to see her a few times since I have moved to the DFW area. She has a sweet 2 year old boy named Jackson that Finn gets along with really well. Last week she was diagnosed with Leukemia, and has a large tumor in her small intestine. She has been receiving chemotherapy, and the tumor does seem to be shrinking. The bad news is that she has no immune system and has a severe case of pneumonia. They decided last night to induce her into a coma and put her on a ventilator. While this is really scary, the doctors think that this will be the best thing for her in the long run. She is not allowed to see her son, and it looks like it will be several days that she will be in the coma.

I believe in the power of prayer- so please pray for Stephanie and her family. It makes me realize no matter how tough things can get, we should be grateful everyday that we are able to wake up and be with the ones that we love.

He's Just a Skater Boy

We took Finn ice-skating for the very first time on Saturday night. We went to the Galleria in Dallas with my cousin Cody. The skating rink seemed so much smaller than I remember it being. We were worried that Finn would be freaked out by all of the people skating really fast (mainly 8 year old punks), but he loved it. He wasn't able to skate by himself, one of us had to hold on to him and push him around. He kept yelling "Faster!Faster!". It was really cute. Rick is not interested in having him pursue a career in figure skating, despite his blossoming talent. Oh well.

We did it!

Rick and I completed the Half-Marathon! It definitely helped to have all of our friends there supporting us along the way. We didn't run the whole time, but I am motivated to try and do that next time. I am also motivated to try and beat Rick- he finished 15 minutes ahead of me.

Valentine's Day

I know that this is late, but I had forgotten that I had forced Finn to make some Valentine's day videos. One is a message to all of our friends and family, and one is a little dance to the song appropriately titled "Casanova". Finn had a fun V-day party at school, and got really into giving and receiving valentine's cards this year. He calls them Christmas cards, and he loves to go through them everyday. Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day!

25 Random Facts About Finn

Since this is such a hit on Facebook and I don't know what to blog about, I will list 25 random facts about what is going on recently in Finn's life. As for us, Rick and I are both job searching. We have our fingers crossed that one of us will get a job that will take us back to Austin.

Here we go:

1. When Finn has a stuffy nose he makes me put a band-aid on it. Like so:

2. Finn talks about a little boy from school named Brett constantly. I have never seen him, but his teachers assured me that he does exist. Sometimes when Finn does something naughty, he says Brett did it. Or, if he sees an unflattering picture of himself, it's Brett.

3. Finn has a new phobia- snakes. He thinks one lives in his closet. he made me confiscate all snake items and put them in my closet. He has never asked if I might be bothered by snakes in MY closet.

4. Finn has recently started calling me Mommy. Mama no more. Makes me sad.

5. Finn is working on his roller-skating skills. He is trying very hard but there is a lot of falling involved.

6. Finn is learning empathy. He told me that the gorilla at the zoo looked sad. It really does look severely depressed.

7. Finn's favorite new shoes are "Word World" and "Calliou." I'm up for anything but Caillou.

8. Finn tries to get us to think that his toys are broken and that he needs a new one. Of the same toy. He gets mad when we fix them.

9. A couple of months ago, I cleaned out Finn's old toys and gave a bunch to Goodwill. He told me today that he wanted to put his old toys in a box to give away. I really want to believe that Finn is very philanthropic, but I have a feeling he is vying for new toys.

10. Finn's least favorite number is 6. he always leaves it out when counting to 10.

11. Finn knows his numbers 1-11(with the exception of 6), and letters A-F, I, and N.

12. Finn can spell Finn and Mama.

13. Finn is working on trying to write letters, but it is very hard for him.

14. Finn recently learned to draw faces and is working on drawing his shapes.

15. Every day after Mother's Day Out, Finn lies and tells me he took a nap. Then I check the note from his teacher that says NO NAP! Finn stands by his story every time.

16. Finn is obsessed with his Smurf bath toy that he calls his buddy or sometimes Aidan, after his best friend.

17. Finn can watch a couple of minutes of the show LOST, and say "LOST" daddy. No, we do not let him watch more than that.

18. Finn hates to color. A lot of times he will bring home an art project from school, and he'll say my teacher did it.

19. Rest assured, if you have received a piece of art from Finn, I have made him do it himself. But, please know, it has been forced.

20. Finn has very choice names for his private parts that he came up with himself. let's just say I'm glad that I don't eat hot dogs or spaghetti and meatballs.

21. Finn loves to cut with scissors.

22. Finn helps me cook most nights and will wear my apron. It is pink with flowers. I am looking into getting him a more masculine apron so Rick will get off my back.

23. Finn is in a new creative movement class. It is not a dance class, but he can still put his heieny dances to good use.

24. Finn is scared of seeing movies in theatres now. I think he hates the dark along with the loud noise.

25. Finn got these new temporary facial tattoos that he loves to wear. They make you look like a pirate,or a lizard boy, or Frankenstein. The problem is, they take few days to come off even with constant rubbing. We get some weird looks.
