Tree huggers

Rick and Finn's summer project was to build a tree house in the backyard. I have always, always wanted a tree house ever since my childhood obsession with the movie Swiss Family Robinson. Rick felt like every little boy needed a tree house so the building began. Honestly, I had never seen Rick build anything before so my expectations for the tree house were pretty low. It actually turned out pretty great. Rick stained it burnt orange in an homage to the Longhorns and we hung a cow skull and a howdy sign on the door. Finn was hoping to hang a No Girls Allowed sign, but that wouldn't be fair to the little miss.

School is back in session

Wayyyy late on these....but wanted to post some pictures from the kids' first day of school. We were all really sad about summer ending but excited that Finn would get to go see his friends again. Finn was assigned one of the school's sweetest teachers (well, I actually had a little say), but none of his close buddies from last year were in his class. He is still adjusting to not being with his besties, but is making friends in his new class. Sloane fit right in to her new class. She has one of her same teachers and only one of the same classmates. All of her buddies from last year's class moved up to the three year old room. Sloane is now one of the oldest in her classroom and does really well as a leader (of course). Sloane will always do well when she gets to be the boss. Her teachers keep telling me that Sloane is meant to be a big sister and has really shown her compassionate and nurturing side with the younger kids in the class. We will have to see about that...

Jumper

Finn was so excited to do the bungee (trampoline style, nothing too crazy) jumping at the mall. He would bounce so high, he would almost reach the second story of the mall. It was so cute watching him full of joy while he jumped, but the FUNNIEST part is the face Sloane made while watching him. You have to be a certain weight (and older than 2, I'm sure) to do the jumper and Sloane was SO mad that she didn't get to go too.
This picture is priceless!

Summer fun

I had a blast this summer staying home with my babies. We kept pretty busy every day, whether it was going to the YMCA, the pool, doing art projects at home, make road trips to Tyler and Brenham, going on play dates, hanging out with Uncle Will, going to the park, building the tree house, hanging out at Schlitterbahn, or going on small excursions. The summer definitely flew by and we had so many things we wanted to do before it's end that we made a summer bucket list. there was still about half of our list left uncompleted. There's always next summer!

Tennis, anyone?

Living right next to the neighborhood tennis courts, Finn has been very curious about playing tennis. We never really did go to the tennis courts. There is a very territorial tennis instructor that takes over the courts most days, so we haven't spent that much time there. Finn asked us if he could go a tennis camp this summer instead of participating in a summer sport. Um... yeah! It was just a week long tennis clinic at a local high school but Finn loved it. He went with his BFF Aidan and the rest of the kids were at least 10. Finn's tennis instructor told me that Finn did a great job but he kept switching the hand he swings with.

Sloane's latest addition...

... A face full of freckles! Sloane had a sunburn under her eyes at the beginning of summer and has since acquired a smattering of freckles. I hated my freckles growing up, but I think they are adorable on her. My little Strawberry shortcake!
