Fiesta!

My Dad and Will met up with us in San Antonio for the weekend, and it just so happened to be Fiesta week. We had no idea what Fiesta week, but we ended up really lucking out to be staying in downtown San Antonio during the festivities.

That morning we visited the San Antonio Zoo, which is such a good zoo for kids. There's so much to see there- and it has a train! Finn and Sloane loved it.

Afterwards, we headed downtown to try and get Sloane down for a nap. No such luck. Rick and Finn explored Ripley's Believe it or Not and we got to walk around the Riverwalk area. People camped out for hours to get a close view to the parade. It took a lot of dedication. we actually didn't even see the parade. I think we were eating while it was going on. Sloane and I each got a traditional Fiesta crown to wear. Sloane looked adorable in hers, but would only keep it on her head for 5 second increments.

The next day we went to the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch to do the drive where you get to feed the wildlife. Finn and Sloane were both a little scared of the animals, especially the ostriches. Rightfully so. We got to feed a bunch of animals while Sloane attempted to eat some of the feed herself.

It was a fun filled weekend!

Fredericksburg

We made a weekend trip over to Fredericksburg to celebrate our 7 year wedding anniversary. We stayed at the Itz Inn right on Main Street and made a day of sightseeing and shopping. The kids weren't too keen on the shopping, other than the toy store and Finn loved the shop that lets you sample all of their food. He went on a jelly tasting spree.

We had lunch at the Rather Sweet Bakery, which is so dang good. That night we attempted to eat at Hondo's but Sloane was having none of it, so we took our food to go back to our hotel. Poor girl had a double ear infection that kept her up all night long. It was still a great time and Rick and I picked out a super cute light fixture as a gift to ourselves.

Sibling rivalry

Sloane really gives Finn a run for his money. A lot of the time Sloane is a sweetheart to her brother, constantly calling out for her "Bubba"and kissing and hugging him. But sometimes she really lets him have it. Especially if there is a toy involved. Sloane's main weapon of choice is her teeth and she bites HARD! She also pulls hair and hits on occasion. I'm glad that she is able to defend herself if need be, but we feel bad for Finn having to put up with scrappy little sister sometimes.

Sloane is one!

This year has gone by faster than any other year of my life. Even though it has been a crazy whirlwind, it is also been one of the greatest times in my life. Having Sloane has been such a blessing to our family and I can't imagine life without her.

Sloane is going through a sweet and salty phase. She has had her saltiness (hitting, biting) for awhile, but her sweet side is really starting to come out. She has started coming up and giving us constant hugs and kisses. They are so unexpected and precious. Sloane has become a little kissing bandit, blowing kisses to everyone and even kissing a little boy from Finn's class on the lips. Rick had to have a little chat with him about that. Sometimes when you think Sloane is walking over to give you a smooch she will surprise us with a smack on the face.
We celebrated Sloane's first birthday by a trip to McDonald's for her favorite treat- chicken nuggets, fries, and a fruit and yogurt parfait. don't judge- meals like this are few and far between. We threw a small bird-themed party the next day with friends and family. Sloane enjoyed being the center of attention while she opened up her gifts. She had her very first cupcake and suprisingly, just nibbled on it. I was sure that she would devour it, but she only had a few bites.

We can't wait to see what this next yera with Sloane has in store for us. She cracks us up with her spunky little personality.
